DRxug of Choice: Pick Your Poison by LGBTQ author Christopher Duquette available in pre-release

Author Christopher Duquette’s second nonfiction title is available in pre-release through 2nd Spirit Books . . .

2nd Spirit Books is set to release author Christopher Duquette’s newest title, “DRxug of Choice: Pick Your Poison” and re-release of “HOMO GOGO MAN: A Fairytale About A Boy Growing Up In Discoland” summer of 2019. Mr. Duquette’s first title has performed very well through private sales and independent self-promotion, so much so that it is being released with an enhanced cover design alongside his newest release, “DRxug of Choice.”

Christopher Duquette is a New York City / New Jersey native who began college in NYC and then navigated to Studio 54 where he learned he was homosexual and began a career dancing among the glitz and glam of the Studio 54 era. In reconciling his coming-out and reconciliation of same, he had a very supportive family who buttressed Chris’s acknowledgement and awareness of his inner identity, which resulted in his being able to move past addiction into recovery. All LGBT and LGBTQ lifestyle individuals are aware that in the Studio 54 era . . . even with a dystopian culture of the times . . . coming-out and self-acceptance toward total self-awareness was not an easy pill to swallow, which often resulted in pill-taking to achieve that goal. Moving beyond to a balance of whole self is what Christopher Duquette achieved. And, he is happy to call himself a homosexual now while residing with the love of his life, Storm. Having a soulmate in life aids every soul in reaching the horizon of tranquility and zen. Thankfully, Chris and Storm have this existence and getting there is a story, which is shared in both of these titles.

About DRxug of Choice: Christopher Duquette’s latest release summer of 2019. This is an expose on life and how trying to get it right sometimes results in things going wrong while following the direction of people who are supposed to be in the know and intending to do no harm. When the results of good choices go wrong – how you resolve it all and move into the knowing the good while reinventing life to an enlightened state is where the compass leads.

About HOMO GOGO MAN: Written in the first person, this fictional story is about a sexually suppressed boy who learns to dance to express himself, dance for a living, and dance to love life. Starting in the disco era of the 70 s, the protagonist is introduced to the fast world of go-go dancing, hustling, drugs and underground clubs after his first man-on-man encounter while exploring Times Square after he arrives at college. The story continues on his odyssey to live the big life in New York City as he trips through clubs, more drugs, and a series of boyfriends for two decades until he bottoms out in his forties from too much of the above. “Homo GoGo Man,” a play on words of the species homo sapien , is a tale of a gay man avoiding extinction.

About the Author: I am beginning to field my title once more in NYC after a sabbatical in Rural New York to recalibrate from over technologicalization of my life; however, all things come full circle, and I missed the Big Apple. Currently, I hail in Jamaica Queens NYC and I am busily finding my path to the hidden niche’s of books, people, and readings . . . look for me throughout our great city and beyond in the 2017 – 2018 book-signing circuit. If you have a venue, bookshop, store, grocery mart, location for a book reading and signing – I’m interested in hearing from you and so is my publisher, “Q” of DonnaInk Publications, which is a small, economically disadvantaged, woman-owned publishing initiative who offer writers everything but the kitchen sink – they have big hearts and – although, due to size, they can’t deliver everything they’d like to – DonnaInk Publications delivers quality creations, heartfelt support, and authorial success in spite of it all. Mostly, I want to say I appreciate you all as readers who have traversed the Disco Era or heard about it. If you are coming out, in the closest, straight and unafraid of life choices, or as gay as a blue-jay – thank you for being here and sharing this glimpse of history. As a clean adult, post-era, I’m privileged to share a moment of history in recovery and pray the same for each of you.

Author Cliff Hill’s title, “The Broken Looking Glass” 2nd Edition release

“The Broken Looking Glass,” combines the perspective of the author’s cutting edge science and spirituality focus regarding materialism and duality as being causal of problems currently existing in the world.

Cliff Hill’s title, “The Broken Looking Glass: An American Adventure” in second edition summer 2019 through the Pashar Sage Press. This interesting title about self-discovery is reformatted, with new cover design and the authors’ changes, which expand on the original theme. “The Broken Looking Glass: An American Adventure,” combines the perspective of the author’s cutting edge science and spirituality focus regarding materialism and duality as being causal of problems currently existing in the world. Much in the tradition of J.D. Salinger and Mark Twain the book follows the author on a journey that begins with a wrong turn and takes him down a road of self-discovery he never imagined existed.

An excerpt:
They say Philadelphia is a dangerous place. Most of the people I had met were afraid of the area where the shelter is located. I felt no danger or fear. I was at peace.

Over the previous years of my life, I had discovered there were far more dangerous places to be. In 1963, the hospital delivery room at My Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana had offered more possible danger to my survival – but somehow, I managed to survive that experience.

Somehow, I had survived many dangerous and potentially lethal situations. I had cheated death many times. I had grown comfortable in places others considered dangerous. The truth was; for the most part, I felt safer and more comfortable lying on the ledge in Philadelphia than any other place I had been in the previous 48 years of my life.

As I was headed north on a greyhound bus one week earlier; it had occurred to me that Philadelphia was the place of the conception and birth of the American Colonist’s quest for liberty and transformation . . .

Later, it had also occurred to me that my quest for liberty and transformation had become a journey into the heart of what America had become; AND, it appeared it would end in the city where America had begun.

Vintage funky, retro, rustic, shabby chic at The Vintage Barn in Carthage North Carolina

The Vintage Barn has an eclectic assortment of trend-setting nostalgic, urban, and timeless artifacts, bustiers, clothing, collectibles, costumes (Halloween!), masks, and other merchandise you just cannot find elsewhere!

Style has been undergoing a continuous revolution since it became a thing and The Vintage Barn, located in Central North Carolina – Town of Carthage, is a surefire representation of a renaissance in elegance! The Vintage Barn features an extremely unique array of antique, funky, retro, rustic and vintage albums, artwork, books, boudoir items (beads, bustier, faux fur, garters, robes, nightgowns, silks, tulle, wedding dresses, etc.), cards, collectibles, costumes, cowboy boots, dreamcatchers, furnishings, hats, kitchen wares, jewelry (magnificent selection), period clothing, personality memorabilia (Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, etc.) masks, instruments, rustic boots, wall-hangings, woodworking as well as “original” attention-grabbing artworks. This go-to location for Central North Carolina travelers

(especially when visiting Pinehurst, Southern Pines and surrounding golf communities) is a hidden gem. If you don’t visit – you are missing an experience in coolness.

Owned, and operated, by Ms. Ann Turner, The Vintage Barn is a small woman-owned business and, as such, deserves a tribute for its resilience in maintaining a visage, which easily could be beamed to Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City,  or Paris (etc.) as a cat’s meow destination for opulence that disavows designer labels (unless they are previously owned of course). Ann demonstrates her visionary art and theater senses, through interior interpretations her guests come back for time and again. Because once bitten, she’ll be the first to say, customers maintain a strong repeat performance. And, if not for the wares, they return for the lady herself because Ann is as eclectic as the items she represents! Most definitely, guests love the advent of occasion at The Vintage Barn that usurps the ideal of routine shopping excursions “and” often at cost savings too boot.

During the summer, when everyone is searching for weekend “to-do’s”, The Vintage Barn is a definite “must visit” destination. Ms. Turner’s collectibles are hand-picked from venues up and down the seaboard. These delightful “previously owned and celebrated” collections are pieced together to create one-of-a-kind results.. Ann is also very personable . . .  she often shares . . . “I don’t price per product – I bundle. Pick the items you like, and I’ll price it affordably for you.” The novel regalia, and décor to choose from, is exhaustive at The Vintage Barn. And, the store is expertly laid out and designed, it is like a museum tour – guests do get lost for some time while visiting. And, if you are an early planner, The Vintage Barn sells out of Halloween goodies early; if it does there’s “other” holidays but you don’t need a holiday to visit. The Vintage Barn is a great experience every, and any, day.

If you aren’t already an aficionado or collector, here’s a quick lesson on the differences between 1) antiques (rule of thumb 100 years or older), 2) retro (1940’s and 1950’s), and 3) vintage (not antique and not retro – usually older than twenty years). While vintage is often used as a “catch-all-phrase” for antique, collectible, pop, previously owned, retro and vintage collections – it is really its own blend of sumptuousness.

The Vintage Barn is registered with the State of North Carolina Film Office as a filming location and a venue for props. It is housed within a historic building and within the  Historic District of Carthage, North Carolina. Hours of operation are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11AM to 5:30PM and Saturday from 12PM to 4:30PM. Location is 108 McReynolds Street, Carthage, North Carolina 28327 in Moore County.

If you are traveling a long distance, as many customers do, be certain to pick a Friday or Saturday when the store is certain to be open . . . and/or call ahead!

The business of time and communication

The end of the year provides such melancholy, and opposing bliss, that we waver like the tide. Hopefully, each of us between these rises and falls grow increasingly aware of our moments where faith stirs our hearts toward greater aspirations of humanity; while we cope with the currents of business and time and minutia of communications set to pierce our hearts as they maneuver in those aspirations.

Life is a complicated journey.

To all the Carthagians I’ve grown to love ~ thank you for remaining aware of faith in aspiration that far outweighs those piercing interludes we, together, overcome blissfully.

Each of you have restored my soul.

Happy and Joyous Noel

with God’s blessings as we aspire into 2018 . . .

Just a Reminder . . . from “Q”

You know the saying, “Life imitates Art” or is that “Art imitates Life?”

Recently, someone who certainly didn’t intend to do so, reminded me that while I am a business owner, chief executive officer, author, stringer, journalist, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and etc. I am also a blogger. The connotation regarding “blog” was at best, derogatory, as often is the case with non-writers attempting to jab those who write “blogs” among a myriad of “other things.”

And, don’t we write many things if we are true bloggers?

Yes we do.

We write all sorts of things, all day, every day. And, for most dedicated bloggers there is a lifetime of masterful creations both nonfiction and fiction in our closet-0′-writing.

So this “blog” is to say, “Thank you for the reminder. I am a blogger. I blog among many other literary guises. Unbeknownst to you . . . in your subtle innuendo, intended to insult and deride, you’ve given me the drive to do what I do and among the myriad of “other” things you couldn’t possibly fathom, you are accurate, I also blog.”

This one’s for you! Enjoy . . . nothing like a little Gaston time.

Commander in Chief – Vote with Wisdom in 2016

continental-congress

I haven’t said much about elections for 2016. It is a terse situation this year. So far, personally, I believe our choices (as they have been in recent elections) are less than desirable and I feel the actuality of the role of Commander in Chief is missing from the process of choosing the next leader of the free world, which is “our” President. So, I’m excerpting the United States Constitution (below) as a reminder of what is really being decided in an election. These are weighty matters and are not cursory “in the moment” considerations. A wrong leader can enact a lot of damage to our Nation, which is “One Nation Under God.”

It is not a liberal nation or conservative nation; it is not a closed-minded nation; it is not a nation that does not allow its citizens their liberty; it is not a nation that depicts success or failure based on creed or color; it is a nation that believes in balances of legislature and judiciary and executive leadership; it is a FREE nation; it is a GOOD nation; it is a nation where immigrants from EVERY COUNTRY on our PLANET want to come to live – EVERY COUNTRY – the magnitude of this reality should solidify how GREAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS. It is a nation riddled with folly and fallacies; poor judgments; equality vs inequality; race wars; equal rights wars; religious pursuits; cultural monomania and xenophobes but it is also a nation of philanthropy and charitable giving that exceeds recorded history – THIS nation gives more in charitable gifts, infrastructure, Red Cross and other valor driven programs than any country has over time; it is the NATION that extends a hand in love driven by a Passion for Christ in so many forms and colors and denominations the rainbow flag should be the red, white and blue; it is the NATION I love and this NATION DESERVES QUIET THOUGHT AND INSIGHTFUL REFLECTION IN CHOOSING THE NEXT LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD.

I am someone. I am no one to many other someone’s. I am a woman. I am a mother. I am a single female. I am a supporter of equal rights. I support Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, and Women’s Rights as well as Men’s Rights – WE ALL HAVE RIGHTS – WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE and I BELIEVE IT IS WHAT WE ALL DESERVE. I do not advocate abortion but I believe the rights of others are their own and their eternal perspectives belong to them. I believe more education needs to be provided for life skills to our young adults. I believe in Education.

Our Nation needs good educators, which should include Health and Wellness as a modern-day Curriculum. I am a Christian. I believe a Christian is many denominations and I believe in the Freedom of Religion. I believe in Separation of Church and State – there are too many Churches and only one State – it is an impossible concept to believe in anything other than Separation of Church and State. I believe in God We Trust – in Self We Trust has resulted in a higher than average infant mortality rate, drug addiction rate, alcoholism rate, poverty rate, and etc. I believe a belief in a higher power is a choice and every citizen promotes a God even if they choose to believe they do not. I believe in a Strong Military – not to enact War but to prevent War. I believe in Citizens Rights and Advocacy and Less Government Oversight but more Government Insight. I support the Federal Government as the oversight of State, County and City Governments. I support respect of the Federal Government by all States because in small communities Federal Mandate is required to ensure Corruption is thwarted because it Prevails without direct oversight and a Federal System that is our United States – we are not one state or cluster of states. I believe our decision-making in 2016 will impact us in monumental ways in the future.

I believe in a lot more than this and I do not see a Candidate who is a true believer. I see partial believers. I see a lot of carnival barkers – there are more than one. I hear a lot of platitudes when matched to Records of Achievement are sorrowfully hollow. I believe we have laws in place to correct the ills of our Nation already. I believe Small Town America in many localities is riddled with High School Politics and Prom Kings and Queens who carry the same issues into community management. I see a need for reformed infrastructure revitalization that takes into account the citizens represented as well as growth in planning, which doesn’t necessarily equate to population. I believe growth is quality of living first and foremost and outdated small Americana mindsets to keep change from occurring is killing the Townships, Burroughs, Parishes, and collective interests because the well-spring of youth cannot wait to leave an unchanging or decaying or post-humus community and it is many small town Americana not just my own community.

I believe in the future; I believe in the American spirit; I believe this Nation is Our Nation and she is counting on us to not let her down. VOTE WITH WISDOM in 2016 –

THE CONSTITUTION

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

As Commander in Chief, the president controls the military forces. Presidents have also cited this power as extending to their control of national and foreign policy in war and peacetime. Congress may not restrain the president’s power to pardon, except in impeachment cases.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The Constitution gives the Senate a share in foreign policy by requiring Senate consent, by a two-thirds vote, to any treaty before it may go into effect. The president may enter into “executive agreements” with other nations without the Senate’s consent, but if these involve more than minor matters they may prove controversial.

The president must also submit judicial and major executive branch nominations to the Senate for its advice and consent. The Constitution makes no provision for the removal of executive officers, which has remained largely at the discretion of the president.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

When the Senate is not in session, and therefore unable to receive nominations, the president may make recess appointments. The Senate will then consider the nomination when it returns to session.

If you made it thus far – I’d love to hear what you believe in.
