I haven’t said much about elections for 2016. It is a terse situation this year. So far, personally, I believe our choices (as they have been in recent elections) are less than desirable and I feel the actuality of the role of Commander in Chief is missing from the process of choosing the next leader of the free world, which is “our” President. So, I’m excerpting the United States Constitution (below) as a reminder of what is really being decided in an election. These are weighty matters and are not cursory “in the moment” considerations. A wrong leader can enact a lot of damage to our Nation, which is “One Nation Under God.”
It is not a liberal nation or conservative nation; it is not a closed-minded nation; it is not a nation that does not allow its citizens their liberty; it is not a nation that depicts success or failure based on creed or color; it is a nation that believes in balances of legislature and judiciary and executive leadership; it is a FREE nation; it is a GOOD nation; it is a nation where immigrants from EVERY COUNTRY on our PLANET want to come to live – EVERY COUNTRY – the magnitude of this reality should solidify how GREAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS. It is a nation riddled with folly and fallacies; poor judgments; equality vs inequality; race wars; equal rights wars; religious pursuits; cultural monomania and xenophobes but it is also a nation of philanthropy and charitable giving that exceeds recorded history – THIS nation gives more in charitable gifts, infrastructure, Red Cross and other valor driven programs than any country has over time; it is the NATION that extends a hand in love driven by a Passion for Christ in so many forms and colors and denominations the rainbow flag should be the red, white and blue; it is the NATION I love and this NATION DESERVES QUIET THOUGHT AND INSIGHTFUL REFLECTION IN CHOOSING THE NEXT LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD.
I am someone. I am no one to many other someone’s. I am a woman. I am a mother. I am a single female. I am a supporter of equal rights. I support Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, and Women’s Rights as well as Men’s Rights – WE ALL HAVE RIGHTS – WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE and I BELIEVE IT IS WHAT WE ALL DESERVE. I do not advocate abortion but I believe the rights of others are their own and their eternal perspectives belong to them. I believe more education needs to be provided for life skills to our young adults. I believe in Education.
Our Nation needs good educators, which should include Health and Wellness as a modern-day Curriculum. I am a Christian. I believe a Christian is many denominations and I believe in the Freedom of Religion. I believe in Separation of Church and State – there are too many Churches and only one State – it is an impossible concept to believe in anything other than Separation of Church and State. I believe in God We Trust – in Self We Trust has resulted in a higher than average infant mortality rate, drug addiction rate, alcoholism rate, poverty rate, and etc. I believe a belief in a higher power is a choice and every citizen promotes a God even if they choose to believe they do not. I believe in a Strong Military – not to enact War but to prevent War. I believe in Citizens Rights and Advocacy and Less Government Oversight but more Government Insight. I support the Federal Government as the oversight of State, County and City Governments. I support respect of the Federal Government by all States because in small communities Federal Mandate is required to ensure Corruption is thwarted because it Prevails without direct oversight and a Federal System that is our United States – we are not one state or cluster of states. I believe our decision-making in 2016 will impact us in monumental ways in the future.
I believe in a lot more than this and I do not see a Candidate who is a true believer. I see partial believers. I see a lot of carnival barkers – there are more than one. I hear a lot of platitudes when matched to Records of Achievement are sorrowfully hollow. I believe we have laws in place to correct the ills of our Nation already. I believe Small Town America in many localities is riddled with High School Politics and Prom Kings and Queens who carry the same issues into community management. I see a need for reformed infrastructure revitalization that takes into account the citizens represented as well as growth in planning, which doesn’t necessarily equate to population. I believe growth is quality of living first and foremost and outdated small Americana mindsets to keep change from occurring is killing the Townships, Burroughs, Parishes, and collective interests because the well-spring of youth cannot wait to leave an unchanging or decaying or post-humus community and it is many small town Americana not just my own community.
I believe in the future; I believe in the American spirit; I believe this Nation is Our Nation and she is counting on us to not let her down. VOTE WITH WISDOM in 2016 –
The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.
As Commander in Chief, the president controls the military forces. Presidents have also cited this power as extending to their control of national and foreign policy in war and peacetime. Congress may not restrain the president’s power to pardon, except in impeachment cases.
He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.
The Constitution gives the Senate a share in foreign policy by requiring Senate consent, by a two-thirds vote, to any treaty before it may go into effect. The president may enter into “executive agreements” with other nations without the Senate’s consent, but if these involve more than minor matters they may prove controversial.
The president must also submit judicial and major executive branch nominations to the Senate for its advice and consent. The Constitution makes no provision for the removal of executive officers, which has remained largely at the discretion of the president.
The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.
When the Senate is not in session, and therefore unable to receive nominations, the president may make recess appointments. The Senate will then consider the nomination when it returns to session.
If you made it thus far – I’d love to hear what you believe in.
