About the Author: Originally from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Ed is an award-winning humor writer currently residing in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. Apart from sights and seeing the interesting and/or unusual – the J. F. Cole Historic Home itself has an added layer of mystic. According to the owners original real estate showing realtor (not the listing agent purchased from), the J. F. Cole Historic Home is haunted! Now, Jamie and Donna haven’t officially seen a ghost or ghoul – they have seen a large orb manifest in the reading room and then move up the stairs and knock a picture off the wall but it was a fairly fast trek of light formation, which is nothing like what the realtor suggested of a malevolent ghost chasing another real estate agent from the upstairs bedroom that scared him and the buyers so much they wouldn’t return. While Jamie and Donna state, “Things do go bump in the night,” they share that only positive energies exist within the walls of the J. F. Cole Historic Home.

Life, karma and validation . . .

Karma, everyone mentions her name now and again. She’s quite the gal. Personally, I’ve learned to love her, even though she’s bitten me once or twice throughout this lifetime full of blessings, and the occasional tumultuous event thrown in for the measure of good story, and a healthy dose of wisdom.

“Life is what we make it.”

“Life is abundance.”

“Life is our vision in reality.”

“Life is for living.”

“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.”

“Life is about creating yourself.”

“Life goes on.”

“May you live every day of your life.”

“If you’re reading this… congratulations, you’re alive. If that’s not something to smile about then I don’t know what is.”

At one time I prayed for wisdom – I wanted to be wise over everything else. And, the universe delivered – many trials and tribulations resulted in a need for wisdom to produce the best outcome.

After praying for wisdom, and understanding, and depth of spirit – I realized these desires are acquired through practical experience and our reaction to it. If we are praying for wisdom but do not practice it – we are provided greater opportunities to experience the need for it and to learn from those needs until we achieve what we have asked the universe to deliver.

Karma also delivers . . .

The Bible states:

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

Isn’t that a hefty dose of karma? For a long time I’d believed that Heavenly Father was enacting cruel and unusual punishment upon the Saints for iniquity of the fathers visiting the children and the children’s children, but in learning more about wisdom, I came to understand poor qualities , negativity, iniquity, transgressions, sin, wrongful acts, criminal behavior, chemical dependencies, adultery, etc. naturally affects in an adverse way children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. It isn’t so much Heavenly Father’s vindictive as it is that the acts of a generation within family, community, regions, nations and the world have an effect on their offspring that takes generations to repair. It is a natural outcome.

The idea of what we put into the universe returns to us is a natural phenomena of life. If we awake to bless the day and remain thankful for our circumstance while envisioning an expanding universe – it is natural for our universe to expand. If we do so with clarity of mind and goodness in our heart, then our expansion is beneficial.

Conversely, if we perform negative acts, attempt to hide them, and set a course toward an expanding universe riddled with addiction, crime, negativity, poor intentions, wrong-doing – karma returns those elements to us in multiplex. It isn’t even a good thing to talk about.

So where is the validation in all of this?

Well, if you have been through a rough patch while remaining diligent with positive acts, benefiting the people you encounter, sending good vibes, believing in affirmative outcomes, going into your prayer closet and moving toward an expanding universe of abundance . . . the universe hears you, the magnetics of life receive you, Heavenly Father restores you and your prodigy and their future generations reap the just reward.

Eventually, if you hold fast and continue in faith, things will align and even those wrongful deeds you may have sustained unwittingly or without cause will be unearthed and disclosed. Karma will result, and the ultimate power will be your own expanded vision, and the joy of the wisdom of understanding, because life delivers the meaning you place on it . . .

Audience

There was a time when I knew my audience innately and writing flowed to and Increasing Readershipthrough them but what happens if your audience changes? Recently, I’ve come to want more from my writing for the sake of audience and desire to include greater shares of readers. Albeit, this is altogether different than the audience changing, it is more closely related to an expanding horizon of readers.

 

How do you increase readership in a basic sense?
The answer is multi-fold. First, good writing. Second, consistent writing. Third, writing what you know and then, writing about what you know. It goes without saying, if you want readers to grow in number, your content must warrant them. In today’s quick-pace publishing landscape, how often do you see one novel from an author clearly well-edited that you thoroughly enjoyed; so much so, you research the author to learn more and find their website, blog, random media and additional materials. Taking a closer look you clearly note their Internet work is unedited and sometimes poorly written . . .  I don’t know about you but when this happens to me, I’m often disparaged and curious as to the variable. It makes for a tenuous budding reader interest on my part. The best use of every writer’s spare time is to “clean it up” on the Internet – make certain everything rings with a bell of clarity and consistency, with proper editing, featuring researched topics.

A mortal literary sin I’ve fallen victim to, is lack of consistency, not in relativity of accurate data but in seeming bursts of material followed by hiatus’ that can really put-off readers. And, I know it is a folly of mine, I’ve had since elementary school. When you have good writing that is relative throughout all your media with content you can even brag about – don’t stop there. Keep your eye on the ball, keep it in play, stay the course, move the game forward.

Expressly, if you are a blogger or entertaining syndicated columnist or features writer . . . don’t shirk readers with five weeks of effort followed by three weeks of off the radar. Readers have a synergy with writers, especially columnists and/or bloggers. People used to laugh at Internet bloggers when they came on the scene, the “Oh she’s just a blogger” was a chiding remark heard round about under the breath between others. Today, it is obvious, bloggers often experience take-off careers with par excellence! And, they earn them through consistent and loyal presentation.

Of course, writing Rules 101 states, “Write what you know.” Novice authors often think, “Well, I’m from XYZ, haven’t traveled the world, only know ABC, how can I write what I know and be compelling?” It seems like a reasonable question. Writing what you know is about morphing experience for reader consumption. For instance, you reside in a small town. All around you are characters and monumental visual imagery to share with readers – so many stories – so detailed and so riveting – so much so they entertain an entire landscape for generations. In writing what you know, take the bits and create original characters, combine some stories, take out the boring part, put your genre of spin on it and create a new community that is all your own that your readers will love to share. Or, if you are from the city, with its diversity, developing universal intonation when wielding the pen should come naturally, you can speak to the world – you know its characters.

So, content, consistency and knowing your story grabs readers who, in turn, share what entertains them and expands your reach.

How do you make a pivotal shift toward greater audience without compromising your writing style?
Your style is your own. Every writer is special in that regard. Many emerging authors start out wanting to write like a previously famous author and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing – eventually their own voice emerges – but for a surety, all writers have a method that is theirs. The glory of a literary or nonfiction writing career, is the art. Every keystroke belongs to the writer who strikes it – just as every brush stroke belongs to the artist holding the paint brush.

Expanding your audience isn’t a sell-out. I know a famous artist who has famous artists for relatives. His family members market their work and earn a great living doing so but my friend believes it is a sell-out to broaden audience through sales and marketing. He believes his art should speak for itself. It is the classic, starving artist syndrome and while I see both viewpoints – I know the art is best served viewed. Regardless of what comes first, art or marketplace, each is essential to the audience – without the art their is no market and without marketing their is no realization of the art’s existence. The same is true for writers. In thinking of audience, and growth, you are not duping readers – you are privileging readers to have greater awareness and access to your work!

It isn’t a sell-out to increase readership through expanding writs within and around genre, target and secondary markets.

It is my hope we all reap our greatest intended rewards regarding our art and our audience!

The business of time and communication

The end of the year provides such melancholy, and opposing bliss, that we waver like the tide. Hopefully, each of us between these rises and falls grow increasingly aware of our moments where faith stirs our hearts toward greater aspirations of humanity; while we cope with the currents of business and time and minutia of communications set to pierce our hearts as they maneuver in those aspirations.

Life is a complicated journey.

To all the Carthagians I’ve grown to love ~ thank you for remaining aware of faith in aspiration that far outweighs those piercing interludes we, together, overcome blissfully.

Each of you have restored my soul.

2017 – Ringing in the New Year!

2017With the advent of a new year, sensibilities rise to the forefront of our mind. Perhaps more than a birthday, the new year sings its own reverie to get our ducks in a row, to begin again to tow the mark, bids us to turn the page and start anew. Yes, the new year taunts us to envision the horizon and see the future by improving our focus. The festivities are over – winter is settling in and she proves to be a preponderance of resolution our inner being innately underscores in its need for reparation toward the achievement of our newest creative seeds and their triumphant emergence in the springtime for summer’s consumption and fall’s exuberance.

As a fledgling entrepreneur / small business connoisseur, having experienced equally great successes and failures, it is time to embrace the season and refresh business acumen, ideologies and direction. It is time to take successes into the future, and to comprehend lessons-learned from entrepreneurial failures of the past, in order to benefit clients, customers, readers and authors universally in our future.

In order to enact benefits, change is required. So, throughout the month of January 2017, change is the plan of the hour. And, will be introduced as the month progresses to enrich government and commercial clients and customers, as well as literary and non-fiction readers and authors.
